Unione Corale Senese Siena

The Choral Union choir of Siena is the oldest in the city of Siena. This fact was born April 13, 1935, from the merger of two choral societies in our cities, then, the choir "Green", founded in 1911, and "Mascagni" in 1921. At the time of its foundation had about 90 singers, all men. But as early as the next female voices were introduced, initially devoted to sacred polyphony, and later launched the operatic repertoire. It was the women's section that started in the 30s to a major collaboration conl'Accademia Chigiana, which soon became habitual, and the Count Guido Chigi for many years was the honorary president of the Chorale. So thanks to this collaboration, the passion of the singers and high professionalism of the teachers who followed the direction, in the years preceding the war, the Choral Union Senese said at the national level, achieving recognition as the best non-professional choir operating in Italy.
He participated in those years, Siena and other cities, many opera seasons, radio and national and international choral festivals. The undertakings do not declined in the '50s and '60s, which saw the unforgettable protagonist of choral concerts and operas, with the guidance of Masters as Morosini, Zucchi and Ammannati who perfected the preparation. The crisis of the '70s, during which it recorded an overall decreased interest in classical music, the Choral Union of Siena, which has seen its ranks, in seventy years of activity, and not many Sienese Sienese many of which have since proven successful in the music industry, has today strengthened its role as a center for the dissemination of this kind of music, turning their interest to the deepening of the Italian operatic repertoire, but also engaging in the study of foreign authors (Wagner , Orff, Faure, Mussowrskij, Schubert, Handel). In early summer, more than thirty years, the Chorale offers to citizens and foreigners in Siena the traditional concert in the Courtyard of the Podestà, as the event has become customary in the winter concert performed for the feast of St. Cecilia. The choir organizes and participates in choral festivals and cultural exchanges abroad, has also recently collaborated on initiatives Chigiana Academy and holds concerts for many city institutions. In 1999 he promoted the first major events celebrating the centenary of the death of the soprano Marietta Piccolomini Clementini Siena. The present site after the abandonment of the local historians of the Palace of the Magnificent, in 1986, is at the church of Santa Margherita in Castelvecchio structure incorporated by the nineteenth-century factory Institute Pendola Pendola 41 Thomas in the same street.
The tests, on a weekly basis, are held from February to December with a summer break. Currently the Chorale is directed by the Siena Maestro Michael Manganelli.
